Another B Match!

Kaitlyn, Carter and I took Valentine and Knightley to a B match today, put on by the newly sanctioned Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of North Texas. It was raining and unseasonably cold, but thankfully the outdoor match was held in a covered pavilion. We had a fun time and gained a great new experience.

DFWCKCSC B Match

Kaitlyn, Carter and I attended the first AKC sanctioned B Match for the Dallas Fort Worth Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club today. They also had a handling class and a lot of miscellaneous fun entry classes. Knightley won the title of “Best Kisser”. Smooch!

Wichita Falls 2010 All Breed Show

Wow, we had a big day today in Wichita Falls! Knightley showed in the dog breed classes and took first in his class. The venue was oddly arranged, and the Cavaliers were right under the heels of the Bouviers the whole time. Then we waited until after Best in Show for the B Match. Knightley again took first in his class, then we rushed over to the Junior class where Kaitlyn showed him and took first in her class as well. The Junior match was quite a learning experience. Junior classes are all breed, but each handler is supposed to show her dog the way it would be shown in its own breed class, so they are all up there doing something different. The match judge for the dog class was our friend, Mary, from the DFW toy dog club, so that was fun. I was happy to be able to speak to her afterward about Knightley, who is still recovering from straining a muscle in his leg.

The whole family came along to see what dog shows look like. We found a great new cart too, which the kid had to try out right away. The video below is of Kaitlyn showing Knightley in the junior match.

CKCSC-USA COTMW 2010 Dallas Cavalier Championship Show

Wow, what an amazing weekend we’ve had at the CKCSC-USA show! This was my very first “Old Club” show, and hopefully it was just the first of many. Club shows are a completely different experience. Thursday started off with a puppy sweepstakes, and we got to meet a lot of people. Friday was a regular conformation day all day long, then in the evening we went to a great “Eat, Speak and Bid” event. They had a yummy Italian Buffet, then Dr Shawn Messonnier, DVM spoke on “Treating the Cavalier Using a Natural Approach.” After that was fun live auction. Joel came with me to the evening events and we both had such a wonderful time. Saturday was another all-day performance and conformation day. I saw the most beautiful cavaliers win. I also ordered some custom Wallybeds, which I can’t wait to see. Then after another day of perormance and conformation, the show wrapped up with a Tex-Mex fiesta Sunday evening at Ted and Mary Grace Eubanks’ lovely home. Joel was able to join me again for the party.

The photo above is of the whelping room at Ted & Mary Grace’s home. The mama dog was there to demonstrate the seriousness of the warning sign. The painting above is of Ted with Rocky. Every time I visit their home, I am once again floored by the beauty of their dogs. They have such a nice facility too.

Dr Shawn Messonnier, DVM – The Natural Vet

I had the privilege tonight of attending a seminar by Dr Shawn Messonier – The Natural Vet hosted by the Dallas Fort Worth Toy Dog club. There’s so much to learn! I really liked Dr Shawn’s ideas about doing annual titers instead of over-vaccinating dogs that are probably already fully immune.

DFW Toy Dog Club

I went to my first regular meeting of the DFW Toy Dog club tonight at High Stone Pet Lodge on Harry Hines in Dallas. Kaitlyn came with me. It was really interesting! They talked about the show coming up this year. I’m learning a lot from them. Next month, they are going to have an educational seminar about natural vet care. It sounds like my way of thinking, so I’m really looking forward to learning about natural health care in relation to pets.

Blue Ribbon!

Knightley won two first place ribbons today in Glen Rose! We had such a great time today at Knightley’s first show. Knightley won his class in both the show and the match later that evening. Thanks to our generous mentor, Janet Villasenor, both Kaitlyn and Mary got to show in the B-match. Mimi slipped the lead and ran off during her class which was a fun and challenging experience Kaitlyn will not soon forget.

DFW Toy Dog Club Holiday Party

We had the privilege of attending a meeting and holiday party for the Dallas Fort Worth Toy Dog club at the home of Ted and Mary Grace Eubank of Pinecrest Cavaliers. The club members were so welcoming, and we had a great time. I am looking forward to attending some regular club meetings as well.
